Mel Gray has been a cable television engineer for over forty six years. In this time he has earned great respect from everyone who has worked with him and knows him. Mel has been involved in electronics since the age of 13 when his uncle gave him an Emerson AM portable radio as a gift. He was fascinated by its operation and became interested in everything he could learn about it. Mel's knowledge of electronics and electronic repair expanded during his High School years working evenings at a radio and television repair facility. Mel pursued his love of electronics attending Northeastern University School of Electrical Engineering and graduating Boston University School of Communication. At BU Mel built and operated the school's first television production studio utilizing RCA industrial cameras. For this he was awarded tuition scholarships for his junior and senior years. While at college Mel worked for Two Way Radio Engineers, Inc., Boston, a Motorola two way radio service and repair center. There he serviced two way radios for taxis, trucking outfits and the military. In 1957, Mel joined Jerrold Electronics Corp. as a field engineer. Mel spent the next 21 years engineering, selling and helping his customers maintain their CATV systems throughout New England and New York. At Jerrold he was first Northeastern and then Eastern Regional Manager. Mel, with partners, built and operated the State Cable TV systems in Augusta and Waterville, Maine for a period of 19 years. Mel then spent over 5 years as Vice President of Engineering for Cablevision Industries out of Liberty, NY. There he was responsible for maintaining quality pictures for over 1,350,000 subscribers. In 1993 Mel joined PDI at a time when PDI decided to build its own line of headend and other proprietary products. Quality products and great value for the customer's investment dollar were the goals. With Mel's guidance and his now 46 years of experience we feel we have made and will continue to make great progress. |
